- King of Jerusalem (q.v.) from 1163-1174 whose foreign policy was dominated by the Crusader assault on Egypt (q.v.). To this end, his alliance with Manuel I (q.v.) was essential. Despite the assistance of a Byzantine fleet in 1169 he attacked Damietta (q.v.) unsuccessfully. He visited Constantinople (q.v.) in 1171 and was planning another attack on Egypt, with Byzantine aid, when he died in 1174.
